Auditory phonetics is concerned with how speech sounds are heard and perceived by listeners. Unlike the other subfields of phonetics, this discipline deals with the listener in the communicative exchange rather than the speaker. Auditory phonetics examines the physical aspects of the ear including its functions and anatomy in addition to the cognitive abilities of the brain to interpret neural signals and decode the message.
