Deictic Adverbs

Deictic adverbs are constructed by combining the word an with one of the demonstrative particles: seo, sin, siud.

  • an seo "here"
  • an sin "there"
  • an siud "yonder'

for example

1)

Tha Màiri an seo
be.pres Mary here
Mary is here

Note that an sin is never used as the there in Existentials (e.g. There was a man), instead ann by itself is used (Tha duine ann, there was a man (literally a man was in it))).

Use as Nouns

Sin, Seo, and siud can all be used as nouns without the an:

Tha seo mòr "this is big"
