There are no straightforward equivalents to the words "Yes" or "No" in Gaelic. Instead the verb used in a question is repeated back either in a positive or negative form:

Q: A bheil thu sgith? A1: Tha "yes" (literally "am") A2: Chan eil "no" (literally "am not"

Q: An do thog thu e A1: Thog "yes" A2: Cha do thog "no"

There is also a word that means "ok": Seadh or 'S eadh.
