An adverb is a word that modifies any category except nouns. In English, adverbs are often marked with the suffix -ly as in quickly, thoughtfully and honestly. In Gaelic, adverbs are typically adjectives preceded by the particle gu, as in gu math "well" or gu mi-fhortanach "unfortunately."
